Pack-string travel: A lost art

Workshop leader keeps tradition alive (video clip online)

Time was when pack string was about the only way to get to these parts, but nowadays using mules to haul cargo through the backcountry is a dying art.

Glenn Ryan, however, is keeping the tradition alive and last week taught a weeklong course about the intricacies of hitches and handling pack stock.
